Located in Punta de Zicatela, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Casa Amalia was conceived after a client visited a GARQUITEG project. Interested in developing a small rental hotel, the client commissioned a modular, simple design that carried the studio’s distinctive character.
The defining feature is the double-height reception area, where two opposing staircases frame an upper opening that captures a view of the local landmark Cruz de la Punta. This element gives identity to the project and provides cross ventilation through the entry portico.
Polished green cement is used on both the façade and reception area as a welcoming gesture that flows into the interior.
The design adapts to the region’s humid and seismic conditions through low-maintenance white plaster finishes.
Set on a 400 m² lot, the project follows a replicable layout: eight rooms—four on each floor—each with a bathroom and private terrace. The ground floor also features a shared pool, wooden decks, and loose stone paving.
The symmetrical scheme allows for phased construction based on strict budget. Currently, Casa Amalia operates with four rooms as part of its first phase.
GARQUITEG brings architecture to broader audiences through accessible, functional, and context-aware proposals—offering craftsmanship in a market that remains largely underserved.
